P4L 500 Full Range Monoblock Amplifier
The P4L 500 is a class D full range monoblock amplifier. This amplifier was engineered, tested, and produced in the USA. It features a completely bespoke power supply and output section design.
The Heatsink
Each aluminum heatsink is machined in Ohio, while the acrylic is laser cut and engraved at our facility in Michigan. All holes are drilled and tapped by hand at our facility as well. The heatsink was designed to keep the amplifier running cool, while keeping a lightweight profile. The center acrylic section allows for the PCB to be visible in a standard mounting position. It also allows for the amplifiers to be customized upon request. Each heatsink features 3D printed PETG end caps.
The Power Supply
The P4L 500 features a classic switch mode power supply design. At the heart of the power supply is a hand wound transformer using an oversized epoxy ferrite core. The transformer is ran by two pairs of mosfets, which are driven by single PNP transistors. Two 16 amp rectifiers are responsible for creating the DC rails for the output section. VCC is generated by an auxiliary winding on the transformer which is rectified by a pair of 1000v rated diodes. The power supply has a generous bank of rail capacitors to store energy for the output section. 80 amps of on-board fusing is used to protect the amplifier and your vehicle in the event of an overcurrent situation.
The Output Section
The output section of the P4L 500 Is a half bridge design focused around the IRS2092S driver. The driver runs four 200 volt, 76 amp rated mosfets at a switching frequency of 120khz. This allows the amplifier to play full range at high power levels efficiently, while staying away from the breakdown voltage of the components. The class D switching is filtered through a hand wound inductor using a Kool Mu core, and a 400v rated Wima film capacitor. An abundance of rail capacitors are placed near the output mosfets allowing the amplifier to make great dynamic power during transient notes.
The Filter Network
The simplistic filter network design allows the amplifier to have quality sound output with minimal points of failure. It uses a single op-amp to boost the input signal while using passive components for the high and low pass filters.
Testing and Development
The P4L 500 has been in development for over 15 months. During that time, the power supply and output section have gone through many revisions to refine the circuit as much as possible. Our circuit design has gone through extensive environmental, vibration, and load testing.
